“We recently designed and developed a specialised sampling tool for exploring marine minerals, which is launched off the deck of a suitable vessel using a large A-Frame. An open tender was issued to a number of potential hydraulic cylinder suppliers in New Zealand and South Africa. Victor supplied the most competitive price, and backed this up with a proven track record of quality and timeous delivery.
“We required two different sized sets of hydraulic cylinders. The smaller units are required to operate submerged in depths of 150m under the sea. This is a rough and highly corrosive environment, and sub-standard equipment is prone to failure. The second set of cylinders was larger than anything Victor has tackled before. However, Victor approached the specification and design in a very methodical manner, ensuring our engineers were satisfied with every step prior to commencement of manufacture. Once the data pack was approved, the agreed quality hold points were used to check progress, and the manufacture was completed without any issues.
“As service providers with extensive experience of working with hydraulics in the marine and sub-sea environment, we were extremely satisfied with the end product. It is not often that the triple constraint of time, cost and quality is met on all three counts.
